It's been about 2 months since my last post. I bit off a little more than I could chew in life and lost February and March... So busy! These counter tops have been one of my recent projects and I'm so happy with how they have held up! They were floral and covered in Walmart contact paper to begin with, tedious job, lots of goo gone.... lol. But overall, It cost about 40$ in paint. There are other Products by Rustoleum specific for countertops in the 200-300$ range, definitely a nicer finish than what I did here - but the ingredients is essentially the same! (I checked for you).
You will definitely get a complaint if you do this in an apartment.... it's very, very strong.
I don't want to share pictures of the entire kitchen just yet, but here is a sneak peak at the cheapest counter re-do everrrrr!!!!
I searched the "mistint" section in Kent for the darkest color I could find with a primer base to start with. The bargain gods sent me a can of espresso paint/primer for $4. Which, by the way, I have since used for an additional 3 projects... pure satisfaction. There is no picture here to show, but I gave it one coat with a roller to prep the area. (After a serious scrub, sand and taping everything off.)
Than I got a little distracted and proceeded to demolish the "back splash" too...
and here it is!!! The new spray-paint-favorite!! Rustoleum Multi Colour Textured. I have cleared the Dartmouth Crossing Wal Mart of the product so I'm currently on the hunt for somewhere else around here that sells it (Amazon). It has a rock grittiness to it, and love this iron finish one because - once sanded down it almost resembles concrete. I'm alllllll over the concrete countertop trend. Maybe that will be my next countertop nose dive! I considered it as a solution for these ones but it would have been harder to recover if it didn't work out.
So many natural elements here and not a boring thing about it...
High gloss concrete floors!
^ This photo from magnoliahomes.net stood out to me because I looove the way these concrete countertops turned out and it's the look I was going for. I must have a clear vision for what I want.. because it's a shot of the same kitchen I'm using for inspiration!! Love when stuff like that happens in such a big internet land!

Love the Iron hardware, natural finish of wood, white cabinets, white dishes, and of course the countertops!! The paneling on the cabinets are a great diy to refresh old plain cabinets.
Back to the low[er] budget version... I finished with a couple coats of Polyurethane, using a cloth to smooth as I went.. and that was all she wrote! This is another spray "paint" that gets used for lots and lots of things.
Now..... As for this backsplash!! Still trying to decide whether or not I want to try and make these square white tiles work or do a subway tile. Meanwhile... the counters aren't floral anymore!
This spray paint made it's way onto other things in this kitchen as well! These bronze/wooden handles I got for $1 a piece got a little facelift :).
Remind me to take more before pictures... I'll share the finished kitchen soon!
