A small budget for a baby nursery and a lot of free time = a thrifting adventure! These are some before and after of the smaller projects from the baby nursery.
This WAS a big gorgeous ornate mirror that I found over 2 years ago. Got it home, leaned it up against the wall to take my shoes off and 'smash'... devastating. I haven't known what to do with it until now!!
I used this really pretty purple color to paint just one wall in the room (being cheap) so I used the left overs for the frame (being cheap again). Michael's sells these wooden letters for less than a toonie so I painted one to match the Giraffe theme. Now this piece hangs over the crib!
Tip: I mounted the "A" with Velcro from the dollar store, these letters are too thin for nails or screws. It would either not sit flat or it would split.
This ugly silver monstrosity to the left was another failed DIY project. It was a super 80's pink and brass lamp and I painted it with a metallic spray paint that wasn't as chrome as I thought (turned out horrifying). So being cheap again, I used left over paint from our bedroom to hand paint the giraffe print! (This project inspired the "A" in the frame).
Tip: Winners always sells cheap lampshades by themselves if you have a lamp that needs a boost.
Simple enough - Salvation army had so many little nick nack shelfs for around 3 bucks! This one just needed some sanding and paint, plus I added a few hooks!
Before
After
I can't imagine spending money on decorative things amongst all the other necessities. Everything is so short lived when it comes to spending money on a baby! Plus doing it yourself will help the time pass when your pushing 200 pounds and eager to meet the love of your life!
In conclusion I barely left the house for this "thrifting adventure"of accessorizing the nursery, so the moral of the story is - Don't throw out your failed DIY projects!!
I'll share some furniture DIY's from the room shortly!
